The line "Noong isilang ka sa mundong ito..." (When you were born in this world...) - culled from the popular song entitled "ANAK" (Child) - by composer / singer - MR. FREDDIE AGUILAR and the that of the play of words by the inspiring Archbishop of Manila that reiterates the VALUE OF HUMAN LIFE and the MAIN STRENGTH of Filipino culture: FAMILY.

MESSAGE OF THE AUXILIARY BISHOP OF MANILA FOR THE 2012 ARMA CHRISTI RELICS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MESSAGE

“Today if you hear the voice of the Lord, harden not your hearts” (Ps. 95:8)

This season of Lent is a grace-filled period for the followers of Jesus. A time wherein we look deeply into our Christian Faith and Life. More than any time of the year we devote time to prayer, recollection, celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation (going to confession), and sharing our time, talent and treasure to those who are least and last of our community.

The voice of the Lord is loudly heard through the devotion and prayer of the Stations of the Cross. It cannot but move the heart of each one of us to the immense love of the Son of God. How much more it can arouse our attention since it is the Arma Christi Reliquary, a special reliquary containing rare relics associated with the Passion of our Lord. And added blessing is the life-sized replica of the Holy Shroud.

We cannot but comment The Arma Christi Relics Tour 2012. We pray that many faithful will be transformed by this tour of Arma Christi Relics into knowing Jesus more clearly, loving Jesus more dearly, and following Jesus more closely.

In Jesus our Lord and Savior,

+MOST REV. BERNARDINO C. CORTEZ, DD
Auxiliary Bishop of Manila

SOME CLARIFICATIONS REGARDING THE ARMA CHRISTI TOUR

1) The Tour is intended both by the team and the people to help in the EDIFICATION OF THE FAITHFUL AND THE RESPONSE TO THE UNIVERSAL CALL TO HOLINESS.

2) The Tour is SUPPORTED by the different officials in the Catholic Church contrary to the rumors of some people

3) The Tour is SELF SUPPORTED by the team that brought the relics. It is IMPRUDENT, CALUMNIOUS and ERRONEOUS to say otherwise.

4) The Tour NEVER SOLICITED FROM ANYONE NOR HAS EVER WRITTEN A LETTER OF SOLICITATION for support for the relics although it accepts voluntary offerings.

4) If anyone receives information contrary to those herein, it is a fruit of lie and a work of the devil.

ARMA CHRISTI RELIQUARY

Arma Christi ("Weapons of Christ"), or the Instruments of the Passion, are the objects associated with Jesus' Passion in Christian symbolism and art.

They are seen as arms in the sense of heraldry, and also as the weapons Christ used to achieve his conquest over Satan; the prime member, the Cross, had been introduced to Christian art in the 4th century as the Crux Invicta, a symbol of victory.

Relics of the most important items had a long history, dating back to the Empress Helena's discovery of the True Cross in the early 4th century. Relics of the the Holy LanceHoly SpongeHoly Chalice and Nails from the Cross were all venerated well before 1000, and were to proliferate in later centuries.

Since the early Middle Ages and throughout the modern period, these elements are intended as weapons not only in the concrete and literary sense,  as they are instruments of physical torture,   but  are  weapons particularly in the spiritual sense – being instruments through which our salvation was brought into fruition. Because through them, Christ gave His life to redeem man from sin and from them humanity can then likewise seek refuge, consolation and help against the temptations of this world.

As St. Paul points out:  ”In reality, although we are in the flesh, we do not battle according to the flesh, for the weapons of our battle are not of flesh but are enormously powerful, capable of destroying fortresses. We destroy arguments and every pretension raising itself against the knowledge of God…” (2 Cor 10: 3-5).
